If anyone still having problem with install phpopenchat (due to blank pages when running the install.php), do the following

    1) if you have uploaded script already, and made changes to get it work, but still no luck, go ahead and delete or rename the folder.

    2) Upload the script again to a different folder if you did not delete the original upload.

    3) Go to folder where script was uploaded, click on include folder and delete the folder "adodb".

    4) After uploading the script and performing step 3, locate adodb version 4.54 for php. you can download it from the link below:
    https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=42718&package_id=34890

    5) unzip the adodb to your harddrive.

    6) browse to location where files were ziped, and upload the adodb folder to include directory.

    7) remeber if you uploaded the phpopenchat again, you will need to chmod rights for certain files and directories. When you run the install you will get warnning if they are not set.  You can run the install and you will get a message on which files/directories to chmod.

    8) now run the install script again.

I tried this and it worked for me correctly without any problems.  After I installed the chat, I don't like it at all, no administration featuers...etc. Now I feel sorry for spending time attempting to fix the installation. I am still can not figure out how could someone write a program for others to use and not have proper documentation on installation.
Anyway, since I did not like the chat, I went ahead and deleted it, and I think I am going to stick with using X7Chat which I think is way better than phpopenchat.
Here is the link for x7chat.

    Good luck....

I think you are right.  Eng. Installation manual is very very bad..  not professional at all..
