#434 installation error Do a chmod 777 to user icon upload dir

I have uploaded all the files now when i try to install the chat script this messages comes:

"Do a 'chmod 777' for USER ICON UPLOAD DIR to give the webserver write access."

What should i do even i have chomodded all the directories one by one but the problem persisted.

Please reply me as soon as possible
