Today I've coded a bit on phpNewsList. I've added a new feature called the "Manage blacklisted members page" and I have fine tuned the confirm process task. All the latest changes are available in the CVS. For now the phpNewsList features in the latest stable version (1.2) are: . List all available mailing lists on a system. . Show the number of subscribed members for each list. . Show the total number of subscribed members on all lists. . Find and remove a member from all available mailing lists. . Generate the news-list using members from other mailing lists. . Empty the generated news-list. Version 1.3 will add this features: . Introduce the concept of blacklisting: Members listed in the blacklist and available in at least one of the mailing list will be exclude from the news-list during generation. . Users may auto blacklist themself using the public interface: http://foo.bar.org/phpnewslist/public.php . Auto blacklisting requires confirmation using the Random Confirm Key (RCK) sent via E-Mail to the user. . The phpNewsList Admin will be able to get a list of blacklisted and pending-blacklisted users -- He will also be able to unblacklist an user (Is this useful?). . Blacklisted user are handled through PEAR DBA 0.9.2 (Which is integrated directly into phpNewsList) in an external file database (data/blacklist.dat). Ideas for future phpNewsList releases are: . Support for non-Unix like systems, e.g. Windows servers. . Web interface to send news-letters directly through the phpNewsList web interface (Proposed by Felix Nippert). . More and less. Ideas? Well then, that was an little overview of what phpNewsList ist actually capable of and what we expect to do in the future. I'm currently running phpNewsList 1.2 on a production server with more than 10 mailing lists (~8.000 subcribed members) to generate monthly news-letters. I work on the development process of phpNewsList 1.3 on my local Debian based web server. What about you? Where did you get phpNewsList running? Thanks for feedback. Remember always to reply to the list when we discuss topics on the mailing lists itself, if not the reply answer will just be sent to the original E-Mail author and not to the list itself. I'm currently coding on the blacklist support for phpNewsList 1.3. An user can actually blacklist itself using the public.php interface, code is in the CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/phpnewslist/phpNewsList/public.php?vi= ew=3Dmarkup As public.php is the userland interface blacklist.php will be the admin counterpart to list current blacklisted users and perform tasks on them. We also should think about updating the phpNewsList website itself http://phpnewslist.sourceforge.net/, it's code is also available in the CVS, module: website. > Aleksandar Ilic >=20 Regards, I. --=20 )/_ _.--..---"-,--c_ Ivo Marino <ei...@us...> \L..' ._O__)_ http://www.sourceforge.net/users/eim/ -. _.+ _ \..--( / MP3Roaster, phpNewsList, WWW::SMS. `\.-''__.-' \ ( \_ Free Software Developer `''' `\__ /\ ') |

For now let's just get this mailing list and of course the development process rolling. As reported in previous E-Mails I'll get some free coding time just in the evening during weekdays and in the afternoon on week ends. Here we go folks, phpNewsList-devel is up and running now and to make things short I have just subscribed all known phpNewsList interested developers to the mailing list, here is a short member list: Name E-Mail address Location -------------------------------------------------------------------- Ivo Marino <ei...@us...> Italy Matteo La Bella <m.l...@fa...> Italy Felix Nippert <the...@us...> Germany Vijoy Ap <vi...@us...> India Borislav Nedelchev <sn...@us...> (Unknown) Aleksandar Ilic <ai...@us...> (Unknown) -------------------------------------------------------------------- So all in the all the phpNewsList has already 6 members.
