about their sessions getting hung and having to exit and re-enter chat room to get out of hang?

    Any thoughts here?

Are there any parameters that can be tweaked to alleviate this condition?

You can try to reset the refresh rates in the config.lib.php3, and hopefully when you make the changes it won't cause and error you had previously.... :) You can also find out what browser the users are using and suggest an upgrade if need be. Other than that, I'll have to think about this one, the only time I've had a problem like this is in windows XP running IE 6, and this just started happening yesterday, since I don't use XP much and haven't tested it out much, I will be looking for a fix on that computer, and will post it here if I find one...

Ok, I can't seem to recreate this error on my site or yours. I do think it only happens when you have multiple users in the chat and there is some type of over load to the chat server, causing it to lock up only some of the users (I hope I'm wrong though). I know that none of my users experienced this, I only did. You can suggest the upgrade of the browser, or even a switch over from IE to netscape, and hope that it's just a browser issue, I know that's what I'm thinking the real trouble is, and this should be the issue since I never experienced anything like it using any of my linux browsers, and the windows browsers until I used IE 6... So, if you're users are logging in with IE 6 that might be it, do some research and see if we can pinpoint it to a specific browser.... hope that helps, and by the way, I like what you've done with your chat...

Im experiencing the same problems. Im running on WinXP and IE 6.0.

Win XP/IE 6.0 in combination with Javascript is = No Good!! Many ordinary webpages with Javascript get stuck and displays errormessages.

      Check w Microsoft for upgrades??

      Tim,
Thanks for the kudos on site. Other night when we were getting hangs there were 4 users on....when hangs started happening I asked what browser they were using at time...one responsed netscape other IE...never asked versions though...both were experiencing the hangs. I thought I had a hang once myself and I was using netscape 4.79. Next wed will be a scheduled chat so will get some load on system. Maybe you could poke your head in anonomously then.
Little nervous wondering if this behavior will discourage users and if able to stand up to heavy load....over time load will increase as more find the site.....700 in our graduating class!!! Don't know what to expect....contention on server? contention in code? You suggest any thought here load balancing or optimizing for large populations? Would multiple chat rooms help?
