HOW TO DUPLICATE: From remote (??Unix??) box -
choose individual table, choose 'export.' Do single table
data dump from MySQL 3.23.54 to SQL file. Table must
contain 1 text field. Either view or save as file on local
system (doesn't matter.)

ISSUE: Dump is fine, except Text field which reports as
unicode rather than text in the .sql file. Thus a Windows
system cannot retrieve and edit the field contents in the
dump with a simple text editor.

    If you use unicode translation, you can select charset of
    dump, if you don't phpMyAdmin won't produce unicode data
    (unless they are in database).

    If you mean 0x... values, it is not unicode, it's just hex
    dump of text and was fixed in 2.5.0-final...
