On the MariaDB demo server, there is a version mismatch:

Your PHP MySQL library version 5.5.40 differs from your MySQL server version 10.0.14. This may cause unpredictable behavior.

Server version: 10.0.14-MariaDB-1~wheezy-log - mariadb.org binary distribution
Database client version: libmysql - 5.5.40

We should deal with this better.
