No

Inline edit works correctly with a row having a foreign key, when the display "Option" is "relational key". But when it's "relational display column", we lose the current value of the column in the dropdown list.

Madhura, you merged a patch for this, right? It's better, however at the end of inline edit, we see the relational key instead of the display column.

    Yes, I noticed that.
I'm wondering whether it's a good idea to duplicate display logic from display_tbl.php into either sql.js or sql.php to fix this. That's why I asked whether it would be feasible to fetch the edited row and replace the old row.

Indeed duplication is not a good idea but I'm not sure if a change about this can be done for 3.4.0.
