Also I found the horrible hack which I had used to cancel the login on a
default_auth page 

$auth->login_if($again AND $auth->auth["uid"] == "nobody" AND
!$cancel_login );

BUT this is very bugging. Someone long back had submitted a patch which
prevented this - will have to search
