DB primary key ID and parent_id

Marco, I found your PHP Layers Menu very excellent. Unfortunately for me I can not use it. I would like to ask your advice if it is possible for me to make some changes so PHPLM works with my database (and quite a few too).

Basically my DB primary key ID field and parent_id fields for first level items doesn't meet PHPLM requirement. This is so frustrating.

My DB primary key ID = 1 (and must be greater than 1 according to the PHPLM manual)

And my DB parent_id = 0 (and must equal to 1 for the first level items according the manual)

That is very sad for me because I'm using a very popular app which lack of a powerful menu system such your. I think that would be a tremendous boost and a way for your Project to find a niche on the web.

I tough of cloning or mapping the tables but that's quite sad if I could simply modify the core.

Unfortunately, I not such an expert like you for doing this.
I’d like to know what you think.
    What can be done?
Should I simply forget about this?
Or maybe there are just a few lines of code to change.
I really don’t know so I’m asking you the expert.

I have read the anwser you gave to sven7 in august 2004 about this (just saw it too late otherwise I wouldn't have open another thread).

      Ref : https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=2735513

Maybe today, mysql doesn't have any issue with indexes starting from 0.
      Just a guess.
