I've got an idea for a new feature. Instead of just specifying a JPG to use for a generic album icon you recurse into the album an grab a random thumbnail from inside the folder? This would make the list of albums display much more interesting. You should include an option of whether to grab a random image or to just always use the first one in the album.
Another idea along these lines is to allow for a jpg to be called "image__cover_.jpg" in each directory which would always be used to represent the album in list view (instead of the random image from above).

i have implemented very rough versions of folder level thumbnails and admin mode for setting those thumbnails and also for writing descriptions files while viewing pix... http://tonymuka.com/phpix/
