I've tried several things to get phpix 1.0.2 to work.  I'v got mandrake 7.2 with php 4.0.3pl1.  I've tried:
    1) making sure the permissions were all at least read and executable.
    2) locating convert which is in /etc/bin/convert rather than /etc/X11/bin/convert as was originally set in the config.inc
    3) changing to gd vs im
    4) removing the "/" in front of $pix_base in 4 places as was mentioned in a few of the other posts in the index.phtml file
Any other suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

I forgot to mention what I seeing in the brower, doh.  I can get the list of file contents when i type in phpix and if i click onto the index.phtml i get the purple page with the list of folders in the albums dir.  when i select a folder, it pops me back to the page with the contents of the phpix folder.  If i just go to the albums dir, i can just go to the individual folders an view the index of jpg and even view them but in full resolution, never scaled.
      Thanks again

ok, i changed the group and own of the albums/ to nobody and still not working, BUT, just for the heck of it i tried to view it from a windoz machine with netscape and no luck but it did work with IE (some permission stuff to work out since the images weren't displaying only x,) showing the subalbums in the purple screen and then the .jpg in the directories scaled.  Not sure which if any of the things i did got me to this point or if IE was working all the time.  i may just delete and start over and see which step did it.   Not sure how to fix the current netscape problem however, could be config set up problem.  Any suggestions?  (I feel like I'm talking to myself. You are.  Shut up! No, you shut up!)

ok, so i deleted and started over.  I changed the config.inc to accurately point to convert and chmod 777 -R albums/ (rwxrwxrwx) and it works fantastic, images and all under IE but still having probs with netscape under windoz and linux.

Well, I was wondering if it had to do with Java support so I downloaded the latest Netscape 6 and did a "Full" install which loads Java 2 support.  Low and behold, my page now works with netscape too.  Hopefully it is as stable, doubt it though.  Thanks for all the help Ron, you must be a guru.  Nah, don't mention it, it was my pleasure.  ;)
