Client Contact/Re-assignment Feature
A Client Contact/Re-assignment Feature would make phpIpam truly a full blown IPAM console. Having such a feature would put phpIPam at the top of the "A" list of address management tools for ISP/IT or hosting facilities.
ISP/Hosting/IT departments that manage address space for numerous clients would benefit tremendously with a "Client" management feature. It could be similar in build to the current VLAN management feature. The VLAN feature has "one" administrative entry point that can be added to any subnet via a dropdown list on the create/edit subnet page. Essentially, this allows an admin to assign multiple subnets to one VLAN without having to enter the VLAN information for each subnet assignment.
A Client management feature would offer that same "one" entry point for multiple subnets assigned to a singular client. Basically a client management feature could have company name, address, phone/fax/mobile numbers, POC, email contact or any number of data fields that could be useful. Plus the option of custom fields for CLIENTS could be added so that any ISP/IT department could customize their particular IPAM environment.
Client Contact detail would be added to the dBase via the Administration section in exactly the same manner as a VLAN is added. As well, the Client Contact page would have the option to edit existing clients for any changes in Client data.
At the point of creating or editing a subnet, the admin would have the ability to select a CLIENT for that subnet from a dropdown list exactly like assigning a VLAN to that subnet.
Another plus to a Client Contact feature would be the ability to search for a Client and have the results show all address assignments to that singular client. Which would be very handy when auditing address space or justifying address space requests and especially handy when justifying your own address requests with your RIR.
The Client Contact feature is not an allowance as a "user" into the IPAM. Rather, it is an internal management tool for administrative purposes only.
