#358 [r558] Host records in PowerDNS are not created when adding new IP address

I'm adding new IP addresses to one of my subnets, entering a FQDN as hostname. I would expect that an A record (in this case it's an IPv4 address) would be created in the PowerDNS database. But this does not seems to happen. When I check the database afterwards (either via Administration - PowerDNS or directly on the powerdns-server) there are no records there.

Manually entering records through the admin menu also doesn't work, see my other bug report.

For the wishlist: It would be a nice feature to have a field in the configuration of the subnet to enter a default domainname for that subnet, which is automatically entered in the hostname-field of a new IP address (e.g. as .connectionservices.org so the admin only has to add the host portion of the FQDN).

In addition: the error on manually creating records from the admin menu was a missing field in the powerdns-database, this has been solved.

Hi Michael, you dont always need A records, so I let this to user to decide. Adding new records should be simple by clicking on + button next to hostname (if Show DNS records is enabled for that subnet && domain exists).

Hi Miha, found it just like you described it (didn't know you needed to enable show DNS). This works fine, no changes needed for this.

After enabling the Show DNS option though the display is getting very stretched because of all the DNS records shown for each entry in the subnet. I would prefer not to show DNS records, but then I'm unable to add an extra records without enabling the option.

Maybe it is an idea to make a kind 'condensed' display, something in which you can view the DNS records for example as a hover window when having your mouse pointer on the hostname? In this mode, creating new DNS records for an IP address could then probably be done from the IP address details (not yet implemented, but it would seem a more logical solution to me).

    Keep up the good work!

    Michiel
