Michael,

I don't suppose there's a way to have the phpip server perform a ping sweep against the defined network and then maintain a history in days of the last date/time that a host was seen on the address? Often times when we assign out IP addresses the user/group will use the IP for a few months or even a year or two and then stop using it. It would be really nice to be able to see when the last date the IP was seen so if ever necessary we could reclaim any unused IPs. The product we've used in the past does a ping sweep once a day against all of the networks we have defined. It also includes an option to disable it on networks that don't want their IDS sensors tripped or address blocks that have our PBX systems that often flake out when probed. If the ping could be triggered by a button at any time in order to update immediately when a new network is added or to get the latest data. My boss mentioned it would even be nice to be able to see the response times from each machine, but his reasoning was purely for using the response times of a large group of machines as a metric of performance to that network or to indicate if a particular machine was experiencing problems in relation to all of the other machines being pinged. However I think that is out of scope. Also I noticed in the device type drop down menu that you have application server and terminal server listed. Would it be possible to add Domain Controller, Web Server, Database server to the list? Is the main side bar sorted by first added, alphabetically or by IP?

Is the list of books in your amazon wishlist still up to date?

Thanks I know that's a large list of questions and requests.

Here's a picture of the last ping response times and general layout of the solarwinds tool

Sorry one more thing. Is there a way to popluate the resolved DNS name into a field rather than or in addition to the popup? Thanks again.

    Hi ejbarb,

As of this moment, I do not have plans to create an IP monitor. The reason behind DNS as a popup, was to check the current database name vs real DNS name. On phpip-4.4 I have added the option to add/update the ipam database.

Yes, my amazon wishlist is some what updated..

Thanks again for your feed back,

Yes i would agree that a ping sweep with auto populate (similar to solarwinds) would be extremely helpful for the initial build out of the database. I'm not looking for a network management tool or an IP monitor.. but an easy way to get all responding ip addresses entered into the database would be great!

I have developed some ping capabilities for your app, how can I submit them to you?

I think a ping sweep would be useful, however it isn't too necessary. You could run the sweep in another application and then import the data into phpIP.
