Attached are the diffs to implement my proposed solution to bug #654486.
The window is widened by 10 points to compensate for the width of the
vertical scroll bar, when the event description goes long.  If 450 is a
meaningful number, the change could obviously be made in the table in
event.php and todo.php instead.

I edited event.js.diff by hand so as not to include the change I made for
the previous e-mail I sent.  I hope I edited it correctly.
