Yeah, I noticed that the line breaks were odd when I included it straight in the email message. That could be it. > What version of phphtmllib did you create the patch from? From the 2.4.0. Then I downloaded the CVS sources and made sure that the patch would still be able to be applied and would still be useful. Hi Erich,
Can you send me a diff -u patch as an attachment. I can't seem to get=
this
patch to apply. It always fails for me. Also, what version of phphtmlli=
b did
you create the patch from? 2.4.0 is the latest.

I was reading the code, and was having a hard time understanding exactly
what was going on in this bit of code, so I rearranged some stuff (still
equivalent function), and now IMHO it's a bit more readable. In
particular:
* I fixed broken indentation
* I made an is_first variable to explicitly say what we're doing the
first time around (and that it is the first time that we are actually
concerned with)
* I collected some of the repeated conditions into an assignment into a
well-named variable
* I collected only what really changed in those different conditions,
namely the arguments to the function set_class, therefore making us able
to call set_class only once.
See what you think; here's the patch:

----Think of the base class (phphtmllibPage) as the 'template' It knows
how to render the layout of the site. So all each specific page of the site
has to do is override 1 method of the base class to get the content that
is specific for that page. It creates a system that helps you focus on
the functionality
that matters most for each page, instead of worrying about layout issues
on each page. You don't care about the layout, you only want to worry
about what that specific page provides as part of the application. That
being said, you can also override other methods of the base
phphtmllibPage class to provide new left
nav content (different menus). So all you have to do is provide new
links in the content that will go to the next script. index.php doesn't
care about what foo.php page does, only that it provides a link to it.
it leaves the content for foo.php up to foo.php. The base class
provides the layout framework.
It's just a different approach to templating, which I believe provides
more long term flexibility then a static template does, but thats
irrelevant.

(A)
Observing the phphtmllib site, when I click at Examples menu link, I see two things (modifications) happening =
:
1) A new content-block is instantiating and replaces the HomePage (that was placed in the same block : content-block)=
;
2) A new "menu" is added to the left-block;
How this was made?
Suppose that I have in (A) momentum (timing, instant) a $page object created/instancied, and it has rendered the page that we are seeing in that instant=
=2E
Suppose that "Examples" h-link calls (invoke) a php program called xyz=2Ephp, like : <a href=3Dxyz=2Ephp>Examples</a=
>
What kind of code will doing the right modification of content-block of the $page object into the xyz=2Ephp program =
?
How xyz=2Ephp program will see $page object (variable) ?=20
For a good understanding I am thinking that the site was created in the same way(style) of Example3=2Ephp (the using of MyLayoutPage), so=2E=2E=
=2E
first_page=2Ephp
=2E=2E=2E
$page =3D new LeftBlockPage("main with menu");
print $page->render();
=2E=2E=2E
xyz=2Ephp
=2E=2E=2E

I saw that there isn't a List of user's, so I had to subscrebing into devel one's=
=2E
For now I am searching for any kind of help=2E
My doubt is=20
Suppose if I am trying to dev=2E a web app and my index=2Ephp file look like this =
:
=2E=2E=2E
=09include_once( _APP_CLASS_PATH=2E"/MyLayoutPage=2Eclass" );
=09$page =3D new MyLayoutPage("phpHtmlLib Example 3 - PageWidget child");
=09print $page->render();
some_new_needed_command; <<<<=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D*******
=2E=2E=2E
and after this I realy get the "site" like the bellow vision :
// --------------------------------
// | header block |
// --------------------------------=09
// | | |=09<- Main
// | left | right block |=09<- block
// | block | |=09<-=20
// | | |=09<-=20
// --------------------------------=09
// | footer block |
// --------------------------------
with the created $page object, what is the "some_new_needed_command" is needed to call the next program =
?
This mentioned "next program" that I want to call is the myLoginPage (like Walter's form1=2Ephp examples), and I am thinking that the LoginPage object comes to be added (inside) the $page one, at the right-block=2E How can I do this =
?

Having seen this I thought I should take a second look at what was
happening in my code. It turns out that in this case the text for the form
element was *not* being generated by phphtmllib. Since it was "->add"ed to
a TAG element as normal text there was no way that it would not
be indented...
So I don't think that this is a bug in the library.
Thanks for your help.

Look at the tag_classes/ALLTAGS.inc on line 1449. class TEXTAREAtag extends HTMLTagClass { var $_tag = "textarea"; function _set_flags() { parent::_set_flags(); $this->_flags &= ~(_INDENT | _NEWLINEAFTEROPENTAG); } } // TEXTAREAtag If you look at the _flags setting, it is telling the tag to never indent, and never to put a newline character after the open tag is finished. If you have an example where this isn't happening it is a bug, and I would like to see it. Walt |

Hi Walt, > Hi Mark, you are correct about browsers and the textarea content. I > have the flag set by default on the tag to tell it not to render > indentation on the tag at all. You can take a Ah, this was something I was not aware of, that you can set the indentability of individual tags... What I did to get around it is set INDENT_LEFT_JUSTIFY on my "new HTMLPageClass" statement, which of course indents nothing. > http://phphtmllib.newsblob.com/phphtmllib/examples/form2.php View the > source, and you will see the textarea tag not being indented at all. Looks great! But how is it actually done? Having searched the API I found the Container::set_indent_flag() method. But my question is now how do you make it a default for all instances of a tag - ie all textareas. In fact, wouldn't it be better for the TEXTAREA class itself to have this set to false anyway? You can take a look at the form2 example at http://phphtmllib.newsblob.com/phphtmllib/examples/form2.php View the source, and you will see the textarea tag not being indented at all. Do you have a page where this is not working like this? Walt |

Hi, I have a question with regards to the rendering of tags when it comes to textareas. It appears that if textarea content is rendered nicely indented like all other elements then browsers display it with all of the whitespace at the front of each line. Would it be possible to have the rendering *not* indent textarea content? Cheers, Mark. -- Mark Lawrence (no...@nu...) Mobile: +41 79 309 0633 |

Walt- I downloaded the current CVS and am looking to play around w/ your FormWizard a little bit. Any tips on how to use it? (which actually means, how the heck do you use this thing?) :-) Thanks, PS. I have been putting together a few of the things I have laying around and am about to post them to the list. I'm fixing it right now. I'll have it in CVS in a few minutes. 2.2.5 is pretty much ready to go. Anything you guys can contribute, I would love to check out and include them as part of the libs. I've been so busy with peripheral things and new features, I haven't had time to work on new widgets. I'd love to get something like a calendar widget. Cheers Walt |

Hi, First, awesome job on the library Walt. I have almost convinced my entire programming group to use it exclusively on our web projects. It has saved a great amount of development time and has made my job noticeably easier, thanks. On to the good stuff . . . I have been falling in love with the FormValidation class. I use it everywhere throughout one of our sites, even when I am not using any of the other Form classes. However, I tried using the FormValidation::is_ccexp() function, and I get a FATAL error, can't find the function sx_date_today(). I looked around quite a bit (greped source code, php.net & google), but can't find the function defined anywhere. Where in the world does this come from? Secondly, since we have started using the phpHtmlLib library, my colleagues and I have started growing our share of widgets and *extension-hacks* based upon phpHtmlLib. After polishing them up a little, we would love to give them back to the group of developers using the library. What is the preferred method for doing this. Once again, thanks. That array is a copy :( PHP5 might fix it, but I'm not sure yet. Walt |

Thanks for the fix. On a different note, is there already, or are there plans in the pipeline for a reference version of TABLETag->add_row()? Regards, Mark. -- Mark Lawrence (no...@nu...) what is the value of the $content var?
$this->$content =& new DIVtag; has the potential to do bad things
as does $this->$page, because you are doing a variable variable for
$page and $content.
The normal way to access member vars in a class is
$this->page
$this->content
Try that.
