#31 SQL version not working

Idownloaded the latest version on 4-27-08. Tried more than once to install it on localhost (xampp installation). I never got it to work.

It seemed to install properly but the login info could not be authenticated.
Here are one set of clippings from the error log when I had debug set at 3.
Note I replaced the real username and pass with XXXX.

The flat file version is working fine on the same machine.

A few more details so that you may be able to duplicate the problem:
XAMPP for Windows Version 1.6.4
phpMyAdmin - 2.11.1
MySQL client version: 5.0.45

Not running safe mode register_globals= off

Just wanted you to know about this.
