I have an item on my list with quotes. Each time the item is updated/saved, an extra slash (\) is added to it. So, after several saves there's a new slash for each save. After testing 2.x, one Item now lists as: 24\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" Dell Ultrasharp Monitor

I think your PHP config has autoquoting turned on. This happened to
someone else. I can't check for it from what I've tried so you have to
      turn it off.

An application that relies on autoquoting being on is a bad idea.

      Thanks!
