[Phpgedview-talk] external SQL updates - sync gedcom file

Im new to both geneology and phpgeview (v4)
I got a gedcom file of abt 5M from a relative.
It has a hugh number of obious errors in it that I would like to correct.
eg some states are abriviated some not,
some names all caps some not.  I've built a list.

Is it possible to use sql to update the data base then somehow
put the gedcom file back in sync?

First of all I suggest that whatever you do is done together with
whoever made the file. If they've done so much work before, then you
want to keep working with them. If you run through the file 'fixing' it
and they disagree with what you've done then you'll have two seperate
databases. Bad bad bad thing to have.

If you can convince the other person that phpgedview online is a good
way to edit then you _together_ can make an agreement on what to change,
and do it together, on the same database.

I'm useless at SQL, but that sounds that the hard way to do it.

Yes, you could alter the data in the SQL tables and then export the data
from PhpGedView back into the GEDCOM format.

Probably easier though to edit the GEDCOM file in a text editor with
regular expression capable search and replacing and then import the file
back into PGV again.

txn for your input.  So I guess you are saying there is an export function
which will create the gedcom file in a state that matches the database.
I'm assuming that if I updated the database without updating the "copy" of
the gedcom in
the gedview index, that bad things would happen.
