Hi Gavin,

I have a lot of experience using LDAP to store and authenticate users, =
and it would be pretty simple to get PhpGedView to authenticate against =
an LDAP server. But the user table is pretty dynamic as users login and =
out and change their settings, so I'm not sure that you could get away =
from at least some MySQL storage.

I have no idea if it would be possible to import the gedcom individuals =
into an LDAP directory and then run PGV from the LDAP. The PGV devel =
team doesn't really have the time to experiment on this. From my =
personal experience I would say that LDAP is slower than MySQL, but I've =
never used it for something like this.

Subject: [Phpgedview-talk] Devel question - gedcom schema and openldap =
support for phpgedview
Hi guys,
First post to this list. I was search for a gen2www browser or =
something, as
this is an area I have never been involved with before.
I currently have www.magicfx.co.uk for my new son, and I will be =
starting a
familytree for all my family at www.thehenrys.co.uk :-)
My uncle has all this info stored in "Legacy", and he will be sending me =
a
gedcom export, so I can also use "gramps". Unfortunately, my fathers =
side is
recorded by hand, so that is another job. Then I want to launch your =
excellent
looking app for all of them.
I was thinking it might be nice to come up with a gedcom schema and =
maybe code
up some access for phpgedview. I think this might be good for like a =
fast read
only server for other apps too, not just websites?
Any thoughts? Or is it crazy to go against the standard mysqld?
Gavin.
