My family's genealogical research includes a lot of documents that don't fit in a gedcom, such as text and html documents.

I don't see a good way to add these in bulk.
It would be nice if I could just upload a whole folder of them to my server and have phpgedview discover them into the database.

I even did a test to see if I could add them into the forum and see if phpgedview search could find them.
Evidentally, the main search doesn't search the punbb forum.

Is anyone working on a module for this?

Thanks

Documents can be added through PGV in the same way as any other media item. There is no real restriction on their type. I regularly use pdf's, and know of others who upload html docs, txt, and even mp3s.

However media mangager doesn't allow for a single upload of a whole folder, simply becasue it is expected that each media item will need to be linked to either an individual, or an event (or more than one). You could FTP the folder though, then use medai manger to make the links.

    Thanks for answering.

I tried adding files from this page.
    PhpGedView-all-4.1.3/uploadmedia.php

When I tried adding an html and text document, I got this error.

Thumbnail media/thumbs/snark.html could not be generated automatically.
There was an error uploading your file.
No file was received. Please upload again.

When I tried adding a picture file I got no error.

I was hoping that any document files might be searchable.

What I have kludged together to get along is this...
I converted about 500 documents to text documents.
I imported those one at a time into Simple Groupware files folder.
That is searchable, though not with an exact phrase search.
So, I do something like search for John Jones in Simple Groupware.
That brings up all Johns and Jones.
I can use the browser search to find the exact phrase.

I copy the search url and make it a source in phpgedview that I can link to the person I searched.

    Thanks

Sounds like that works for you. I've no idea what a Simple Groupware files folder is.

The error "Thumbnail media/thumbs/snark.html could not be generated automatically." is just that. During import uncheck "automatically generate thumbnails". To have a thumbnail either check "Use this image as thumbnail", which tells PGV to use the main image as thubnail, or create your own and add the path to that in the appropriate box on the media upload page.
