Currently, if an individual gets married and has kids, then subsequently gets REmarried, there is no way to have the children from the first marriage show up as step-children for the second spouse. But that's certainly the way things work in the real world. Could an option be added to list a spouses children from a previous marriage as step-children?
Heres an example:
I1 (female) marries I2 (male) and gives birth to I3
I1 (female) then divorces I2 (male)
I1 (female) marries I4 (male) and gives birth to I5.
Currently, if you look at the "close relatives" of I3, you see I1 and I2 listed under "family with parents". Below that, you see "Mother's family with (I4). I4 is listed, but as nothing. (There should be an option to list this person as "Step-Father".) It also shows I5 as "Half-Brother". (That part makes perfect sense.
However, if you look at the "close relatives" of I4, there is NO mention of I3, even though that child is a step-son or step-daughter. There should be an option to make this happen.
Of course, it should definitely be an OPTION, because if the child doesn't live with the remarried parent, often that new spouse is not considered to be a step-parent, so there's no need to show that relationship in the "close relatives". It should be an option that the person entering the information can select. Maybe, when you list a second (or third, or more) spouse to an Individual, there could be an OPTION to list previous children as step-children to the new spouse.
