When names have multiple sources (as well as multiple names), the layout can get very cluttered with much wasted space as can be seen in the attached image. I am looking firstly for ideas as to how to best deal with such cases, and secondly an actual fix :) .

I have the same problem as I've had 6 different names (complicated childhood!), but only list two on my page because the layout is too bad.

We could get more horizontal space by getting rid of the report/chart options from the INDI menu, and change the main chart/report menu options to give the indi version on an indi page and the gedcom version on any other page. Having both menu options on the same screen confuses most people.

Also, few people find the edit-name option without prompting, so it should be consistent for both single names and multiple names.

Not a problem I suffer from very much. I think the most I have anywhere in my gedcom is three names. But KJs image certainly shows the problem well. To me, looking at that, there are two separate problems - the multiple names, and the appearance of Source info.

I would support Gregs solution for the names. Allowing for different screen widths could be an issue with his 6 names though! Perhaps that area needs to be in div tags, with optional scroll bars for the names that don't fit the screen width. Perhaps a thin vertical line between each name group would help delimit thare better as well.

For source records in a confined space like this, maybe a hover-tip display would be better than opeing the data on the page and distorting the display? SOmething like the data on the timeline chart.
