- labels: --> Interface Improvements
Search engines are getting picky about websites that offer up pages with and without the www.
Most hosting providers have the DNS set so that either work, many add the * wildcard so typos like ww or wwww will also work.
The admin interface should allow the admin to choose which to use. For example, I prefer without the www so any time a page is called with the www, it should 301 redirect to the same page (with query string) minus the www. I've added this under print functions but believe that all future versions, this should be added to admin.
There wouldn't be any need to add for typos as most search engines would only pick those up if some other site made the typo and linked to the page BUT many sites that auto-find genealogy sites seem to always adding the www. For purchased domains that have been used before by a previous owner who happened to use the opposite of what the new owner wants, can send search engines into a tissy....another reason what this option needs to be added.
example
http://www.coplien.com/family.php?famid=F337&ged=coplien.ged will redirect to http://coplien.com/family.php?famid=F337&ged=coplien.ged
