I have started receivng a lot of spam registration requests recently. it would be good to avoid spam when registering new users to add a form validator using a captcha (like the Solmetra version).

If this is implemented, may I suggest using reCAPTCHA? It's a free captcha service that implements OCR scans. When the person submits the text, they're essentially helping to digitize books. There are existing plugins that may help with implementing it in PGV.
