It will be nice to have a user's details of his messengers ( as ICQ) and link directly to his ICQ ( or/and other chat programs) so users can chat in real time with each other.
kosherjava,
I think that in the log in user form, and to be seen beside the user ID on the "user logged in" block beside their names. ( as the "send message" that currently appears there)

You might try something like http://www.meebo.com/ which is a web based IM client where you can plug in all your Instant messenger IDs and do IM through your web browser. They also have something they call "Widgets" which you can embed in your MyGedView Portal so you can IM from there. The only problem occurs when you move away from that page, it disconnects you..
Just a suggestion..

This could be part of a bigger feature. The ability to add required or optional fields to the user information section. You could then add a field for any kind of chat program, or a field to identify how your users are related. Any of these fields could then be added to the registration form as required or optional fields for new users to fill in.

yes this would be a very good feature. I know some genealogists here in France who would like to use instant messaging with family living in Brasil.
There must be an open source ICQ program that could be integrated in PGV, isn't there ?

I would go a step further by creating a CMS file to integrate FlashChat (or other chat software) with PGV.

Baruch,
Where would you like to see such links? In the user admin section? In the logged in user list?
