If you add a GEDfile to an existing site, the new GED
is apparently auto-set to access for all existing
authorized users.
We need an option - ALL ACCESS - ALL EDIT - NO ACCESS
Usually, when we host or add another GEDfile, we do not
wish our existing users to have access and turning this
off is a big time monster.

Another user recently requested that the default option for
users when adding a new Gedcom should be Access. Having
access for all users on by default also matches the
documentation better.
I admit that it would be nice if there were a way to assign
GEDCOM/User access levels without having to edit each user.

Why would a new GEDcom and its USERS necessarily have anything to
do with the existing GEDfile? We agree that the initial GED file should
have access on for users (although in all likelihood, there are none yet),
but any new GEDfile probably has little to do with original one.
By activiating access automatically, you are almost forcing the ADMIN
to create another DB and instance of the SW and run the site from there,
rather than run it within the existing instance. JOHO
Perhaps this could be solved with an Administrative permissions button
wihich could alter the permissions of ALL users for a particular GEDfile.
Woodruff.ged - SET ALL USERS to: NO ACCESS - ACCESS - EDIT -
ADMIN
Arnold.ged - same as above.
Then the Admin could re-enable the users that differed.

It depends on your setup and privacy restrictions. Most
people will want the same users to have access on all
gedcoms because the gedcoms are related. (ie related family
lines). The default for new users is for them to have
access on all gedcoms, so it only makes sense for old users
to also have access on new gedcoms.
Anyway, we need a page where we can quickly assign access
levels to multiple users. But I don't have time right now
to work on it. I would also consider this more of an RFE.

As always, TNX
But, what exactly is the advantage in "related families" gedcoms,
accessible to all, over one ged file? Is the only real issue Privacy?
Frankly, we're very unhappy with having added the new GED as the
search is now all screwed up. We're going to delete the new one as soon
as we've merged it with ours. Now there is a REAL need. Easy merges.
At least from one common person. Daniel's client is not ready and is
soooo slow on big files.
We consider and concur - future RFE idea.

Stephen, John,
The fact that you are having this discussion already indicates
that a mass-update function for users would be useful. I am
willing to make this in the very near future, as I'm always
attracted to the admin part of PGV. I believe it's also useful
for other settings, so my idea is to expand it broader than just
the gedcom rights.
I propose to move this bugreport to the RFE's and to put it on
my name. What do you think of it?

The Move to RFE sounds great - TNX
I know Roland and I also discussed a 'LOG CENTRAL" concept
for management and review of the various logs also.

Hi Boudewijn,
Sounds good to me! I was hoping you would pick this up. ;)

It would be handy to have other user settings which can be
made for all (or a selected subset) of users at once.
E.g. most of my users want german as default language, so I
would like to do "Set language for all users to german". Or
at least "Set all newly added users to german".
