Could it be possible to use the Sosa-Stradonitz number
system to identify individuals. i use Heredis and it is
one of the way used to identify individuals offered and
it works extremly well.
you would be #1 your father #2 and your mother #3. Then
your father's father would be #4 (2x #2) and his mother #5
(2x #2 +1), your mother's father would be #6 (2x #3) and
her mother #7 (2x #3 +1). The next generation paternal
father #8, paternal mother #9, maternal father #10,
maternal mother #11.
It always works the same way: the father is 2x the child's
# (male or female children work the same way) and the
mother is 2x the child's number +1.
Like this you now who is the father by just multipling the
child's number by 2. Also you can determine who the wife
is with the father's number plus 1.
hope it makes sens. It is a great system very popular in
France (Heredis is made by a French compagny).
You can download a Windows demo of Heredis and upload your
gedcom to see it in action. http://www.myheredis.com/
This number system was not invented by Heredis and I
believe it is in the public domain.

May I push that request to have the Sosa number displayed on the individual page. It would work the same way as the root person : defined for logged in user, and a default one for non logged visitors. A plus would be to have the possibility to define any individual to be the root (sosa #1) on the fly, same as it is done with geneweb.
Having the Sosa number displayed on the individual page would help navigate and get back on track after going through brothers/sisters children, etc...

Is the numbering system used in the descendancy chart not
the Sosa-Stradonitz numbers?

Hi Blaise,
could you explain a bit more what you want to do, and how
those numbers are managed by Heredis.
Sosa-Stradonitz is used in ancestry chart :
father=2 mother=3 etc...
D'Aboville is used in descendancy chart :
1.3.2 is the 2nd child of the 3rd child of the root person
BTW we need help for french translation ;-)

Jonathan did already some work on it for PGV, it can be seen on his website : http://genea.jaubart.com/pgv/
May be it is possible to review his work and integrate it into the official PGV release ?
Thanks for considering this request with a higher priority.
