In one of my software I have home (Holger) there is a warning system that tells me that I'm about to add a already existing person to my familytree. Is there a possiblity to have that feature in PGV? It would be nice. There is an options in Administration page "Perform batch updates/edits on your GEDCOM" and an option about "Remove duplicate links". I don't know if it does the job I'm after, it might do. Someone know about that feature?
Thanks

GDBI does an excellent job of providing a 'compare to existing' list of possible matches (soundex-like) exactly for this purpose, with the ability to select. Similar to many now-existing autocomplete functions. I thought I submitted an RFE for this some 2 years ago, but perhaps only had it as a discussion with Daniel and others.

Thanks,
I have a look at GDBI

Hello,
I support the idea of a duplicate warning.
We are currently collecting informations from many different sources (mostly unlinked persons). Since the admins sit in different countries, it does happen that we end up entering doubles.
A warning like "There is alread a "John Smith" born in 1957 in the DB. Are you sure?" would be a nice feature to have.
If the feature is of the sort where you can turn it on or off, one could decide to have it or not. Also, to make it even more user friendly, add a set of checkboxes, where one checks what data must check for comparison.

PS: I know one could chek in the list before entering. But that assumes having intelligent users :-)
