No

In INDI view I get thumbnails in the INDI lines for parents, siblings, and children. But media items attached to the family do not have a thumbnail. I think it's unlikely that users will explore the family links to find pictures that may or may not exist, especially when all of the family members are already. I suspect that most people would just tend to surf from person to person.

It seems that the only way to see those pictures is to select the media tab or view the FAM link. If there's a clean way to show the first FAM photo in "Family with" section of the "close relatives" tab, I think those photos would be seen more often.

Depends what the photos relate to. I find the most common are wedding photos, which I add to the MARR event (level 2 OBJE's rather than level 1). These then appear in the Marriage event area of the INDI page.

I tried that; it doesn't appear in the "Close Relatives" tab even when it is level 2 to MARR. It does appear on the Personal Facts and Details tab (they appear to be structured differently).

For me I think wedding photos aren't such a special case; I'd like to provide for other photos as well. Personally I default to the "Close Relatives" tab because it's easier to surf up and down the generations that way. I'm assuming others will do the same.

Thats true - no images, apart from the 'highlighted' image for each individual appear on that tab.

Very much a case of 'vive la difference' :-) . Shows how we all develop our own way of doing things. Personally I hardly ever use the Close relatives tab at all. Since the new "Family Navigator" box was added on the right side of the Individual Facts tab I use that all the time. It was only added in 4.1.6, and has been a huge success among my users. I've even suggested adding a couple more items (links to the Family page; and links to add new relatives) so I can then remove the Close Relatives tab completely! Incidentally, I hear that the Family Navigator table will be added to the Notes and Sources tabs in 4.2 as well.

Have you looked at the 'Album' tab additional module? Its a great improvement on the standard media tab (it has completely replaced it on my site). So much better that it's become the default tab for many of my users. It allows you to separate media into groups; order them as you want, display them as a slide show, even with background music if you choose. It starts to challenge our old ways of thinking about the display of GEDCOM data.

I don't want FAM photos showing on the INDI page, so can we be sure that, if this RFE is programmed, it is done as a config option.

Stephen - I think you misunderstood Anton's request. He referred to wanting to see family photos (groups, etc) on the 'Close Relatives' tab. Still not my taste - but a valid request nonetheless. Of course, any such change should be configurable as well.

I'm not hoping to turn the INDI page into some sort of album, it's simply the use of thumbnails on the 'close relatives' page. We already show thumbnails for the relatives as well as for the INDI, but not the FAM. I think having the FAM represented by a thumbnail would simply indicate to the user that there is a photo (or more) in that place also.
