With more then x users in different time zones, it is necessary so set the site "off-line" during maintenance, upgrades or updates.

I propose a switch which can be set by the administrator.

Site Offline. This setting shows when the site is off-line. Only administrators will be able to see the site when Site Offline is set to Yes. The default setting is No.

Offline Message: A message that will be displayed on the site when the site is off-line. E.g. "This site is temporarily unavailable. Please check back later."

Not a bad idea - but what I normally do is go to GEDCOM config and switch "Enable online editing" to NO. The main aim being to prevent any changes to the data during maintenance. I'm not too bothered about those that just want to view.

Perhaps not a pefect solution, but it has the advantage that in the case of multiple-GEDCOM sites, it only disables the one you are working on.
