I have decided to make a set of Danish language files for version 3.3, and I have completed the first 2 files by now.

When finished, I'll post the files to the patches section and I welcome suggestions for improvement. I resolve ambiguities by looking at the Swedish and Norwegian translations, but I might misunderstand things I'm not quite familiar with. I will so far prefer translating LDS as SDH (same meaning) rather than using "Mormon", and I'll let very specific things with no native Danish equivalent stand as is (examples wouldn be LDS-endowment and the like)

    More to follow ...

How is it going with the translation Lars?

I'm at a stage where I need a danish language set, so before I start translating them myself, then I thought I'd check this forum first :)

I am sorry for the lull - real life caught up on me in the nasties way. I have had less time than anticipated, and I am only midways in config.hlp.da. I'd welcome any help. If anyone'd like to contribute, I could set it up in a way to permit people translate simultaneously.

        - any takers?

Not sure if I am the right person to help - but I need the translation-files too - so I'll do my best. Just tell which file  - and could you please mail the work you have completed for reference...

      Hi Lars Erik,

If you still need helpers with the translation, you are welcome to mail me.

      Jette.

I need also Danish files for the PhpGedView CVS version 3.4.

I see 2 sets of translated Danish files in the patches sections.

      Which is intended for 3.4?

Neither have been made specifically with v.3.4 in mind, but both should work with the CVS in any case. The translations were made independently, so which one you prefer would really be a matter of personal taste. I could advise you, but I'm probably too biased ;o)

I don't want to take sides here, and I don't think anyone else will either.  For one thing, I'm not sufficiently qualified in Danish to make a meaningful contribution.  I can usually spot things that look "wrong", but that's all.

Please get together with the other Danish translator, and produce a combined work that will be suitable for PGV 3.4 (Future Branch).  Make sure that BOTH your names are mentioned in all Danish files.

You should be able to co-operate using email without involving the rest of the Translator community.  If there are any English words that require clarification, please ask.

Danish is back in the PGV 3.4 "Future branch" CVS.

I haven't checked to see whose files are in there, but I sincerely hope that both translators will co-operate and iron out the areas where they might disagree.

      Hi fellow Danes,
Any chance that somebody could let a newbee into the dark secrets of how to obtain a Danish translation which works with the latest release? I cannot follow the discussion regarding "future branch" and and CVS, as a matter of fact, I cannot even, from the above discussion, understand if it is ready or not, not to mention where.
      Please help, tak.

As a general rule, translations made for an obsolete version should work fine with future versions as well. Old concepts are seldom re-structured, so using translation files made for a previous version only results in occasional English popping up between all the translated stuff. You should be able to use the files you can download from this page:

Thank you very much. I will try that. I still find the sourceforge structure a bit baffling, so I will have to find out how to get to area you referred me to by myself. But then - we have a long winter ahead.

      Lars Erik,

Thanks for the translations, my Danish relatives are much happier.  Have you found anyone to help you with the long help_text files?  I cannot translate these but will use them if they are completed.

      tak

No, I'm sorry about that, and my own time for doing it is badly inadequate. I'll be off for a business trip in a few weeks, which may involve boring hotel evenings, and I may have time for a focused effort at that point.
