Delete "Spanish (Latin America)" ???

The Spanish (Latin America) language files have not been updated in a long time. A better alternative is to use the Spanish files, which have been made current and are being updated from time to time.
Are there any objections to removing the "Spanish (Latin America)" language files? I realize that this would require some of our users to reconfigure their list of supported languages when they upgrade to version 4.1.6. Earlier versions would, of course, not be affected. This could be done programmatically, but I don't think it's worth the effort.

Las Jun 30th I posted a message on genealhispana, probably the most relevant Yahoo genealogy group I belong to, asking others to forward the message as appropriate. I know that it was forwarded to at least one additional list. Essentially I warned that you had thoughts of dropping it and that, unless someone came forward and took responsibility for it, I thought it would happen. I did not give any specific time frame for this but so far no one has made any comment on this.
This is a bad time in the year since a lot of holidays concentrate now and people may have limited connectivity.
But truth is that, among those contacted, no one seems to care enough to do the work.
I think I was the “creator” of the Latin American Spnish a few years ago... Is I've been busy last time I couldn't update to the latest versions. If there's an interest to maintain this version of LAM Spanish I can assume the compromise to update it say during the next month. Please answer.

Why not contact Julio, and come up with a set of Spanish language files that can be used no matter where in the world your "Spanish" users are? Remember that it's easy to change the flag icon associated with the language.

I think it would be best if he checked my translation and compiled a list of words and constructions he has issue with. Then we could review it and find alternatives. Because I would be very surprised if there were more than a couple dozen problem words.

You have stated the problem very well. I agree that there should be very few differences, and those that DO exist are probably just differences of opinion.
In the English files, for instance, we have some differences of opinion about how certain words should be spelled ("colour" vs. "color", "standardise" vs. "standardize", ...) but the decision was made (wrongly in my opinion) to use the American spelling and grammar rules. Most of us can live with this, but for the few who can't, there's always the "languages/extra.xx.php" mechanism to override the defaults.
My intention, back in 2003 I beleive, was to make (in my opinion) a better translation of a Spanish that I found “rough” or extremely literal english translation aside from some Spanish words that here in LAM are considered “bad words” or not used at all (i.e. “ordenador: for computer). I will read actual Spanish translation and come back to Julio with my comments... OK?
