      Hello David,

I am one of the developers here and sure want to help you to get everything going but I am not very into FTM.

What have you setup so far? On which system are you installing PGV?

      Regards,

      Roland

Thanks for responding so soon. Right away we have a language problem!  What is PGV???

I use GoToMyPC that would invite you to my PC so you can see exactly what the problem is.  That and www.skype.com for free internet voice calls I find is the most efficient way to give tech support, or I'm happy to pay the phone call.

I'm also happy to pay for support.  The program is absolutely brilliant as I've spent about a year trying to find ways to run my family web site and my web site designer last month recommended and installed the program - old version!

      What do you think?

      Hi there,

No need to call :) I think I am overseas for you :)

You add me to your MSN if you have with rdalmulder at hotmail.com

      PGV = phpGedView :)

What is that GoToMyPc, can I remote control your computer with it?

Other ways to do so, is to create a support user for me on your PGV system so I can just log in. Email the username and passoword to my email account and DO NOT post them here.

Let me know how you want to do it.

      Regards,

      Roland

      Hi,
The issue with Family tree maker is that the images are embedded in the FTW (native FTM file) and I dont think they export to gedcoms at all. If they do export it will be a binary object embedded in the gedcom.  PGV (PhpGedView) expects images to be references to external files (c:\MyGenealogyFiles\images etc as an example). It might be very painful to migrate them. I imagine that your file (assuming the images did export) is huge.

You have run into the BIG problem with FTM. They don't add the photos from the scrapbook to the .GED file. In the latest version they embed the photo into the program and when you load to the internet they put the photos on their webspace where your tree is.

I have been around and around with support over this issue and unfortunately have found no easy way to add the photos to the GED short of typing in all the proper lines manually.

If you plan on using images heavily with PGV you will probably find it easier to not use FTM. I currently use FTM and dont use images. I plan on scanning my sources for use in PGV and therefore plan on migrating to Legacy or an other program. I think updating your ged with your images every time you make changes will be very painful.

Botak - many thanks for the couple of hours worked late last night to resolve uploading issues.

KosherJava - the Hebrew option will be enjoyed by family in Israel. With the site live I'll rely on PGV and not FTM for updates. That way PGV graphics will be consistent.

Job well done - donation on the way!

PGV is not a full blown gedcom editor. Keep that in mind

Happy someone is enjoying the Hebrew. If they want to help in finishing the Hebrew translation, have them get in touch with me. I can use help with this.

As FTM goes there is an active thread going on in the bug section:
      https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=808788&group_id=55456&atid=477079

Any issues you have with FTM GEDCOM should be mentioned in the bug report.
