Foll strange unexpected redirections occur frequently:
For Administrator: when searching for pple in small db or whilst  Welcome page is loading then up pops the admin.php screen either in full screen or in the welcome page even in a frame.
For users: after login or during search or diring load of welcome page the user is redirected to the login screen.

Apart from this annoying thing this version is very impressive and fast

Can you explain more about your system - as this is not an issue we have seen ever before.

    Hi Kiwi
PGV running on hosted Shared Linux server with latest PHP and MySQL loaded.  Just finished loading basic 4.2.3 configured it and imported gedcom and media files. less tha 650 person records and started the linking media process which went fine.  Then yesterday i go this strange behavious that I also have never seen in prev versions and for me as admin it was always the screen at the end of the initial configuration but with the top menu icons visible, or it even came up in one of the frames of the standard welcome page as that section was waiting for connection to load the data.  Also when linking media via Gedcom portal manage media and edit the ftp's files when the file linking edit box popped up i click on the single person and type part of the name in then instead of the name(s) coming in a results of search the admin.php screen came up where the results should have been.
Then a user contacted me to say they had trouble logging in as they were sometimes returned back to the login page.  It was totally intermittent but lasted all day.  The internet in general was very slow that day and even Skype was behaving badly even though we both have a 2mb broadband connection (not dial up).
The only thing i could think of is that my host has a real skinny parameter of 15 secs for a php script to run as a security measure….so the script timed out….but i could not work out why the redirection to specific pages took place instead of just leaving the original page incomplete as i would have expected.
But today the issue has not reappeared and general traffic is much lighter that yesterday.

The site was rebuilt totally using a different install folder on server as the original full install 4.2.3 went badly wrong as google maps only half worked and in the middle of linking media i got phantom media catalogue numbers which were duplicates without the M prefix…..having spent a day trying to clean them out and having them reappear i just left it,   made a new folder on server and made a new Mysql database and this time donloaded and installed the basic 4.2.3 and installed it.
I know that these are really weird and probably impossible to reproduce but the worry was in the choice of page for the redirection that must be somewhere in the code.
Also when exiting 4.2.3 via logout the name of the gedcom file is displayed in the address bar and i would like that not to happen but do not know how to mask it.
Thanks for your speedy reply as it is long New Year down under.

With things like that in place, there may well be other restrictions that PGV doesn't like. You should check the WIKI pages and ensure your host is giving you all that PGV needs. If they can't or won't I would have to recommend a new web host, as otherwise you will always have odd problems like these.

JOHO, but PGV really needs a minimum of 30 seconds for php scripts. I'd seek a new ISP.

As to log-in problems, make sure that you/your users are accessing the full and correct URL. If you have www.mysite.com/phpgedview as the login, if they access mysite.com/phpgedview without the www, it may redirect your user and require an additional login into the www…. site.

I too have seen some of these strange block loading redirects shortly after an update, but I simply restarted my server to clear caching and we've had no subsequent problems.
