From the public welcome page one of the boxes is for favorites and it says "At this moment there are no selected Favorites. The admin can add Favorites to display at startup." I've logged in as the admin and set a favorite, but I think it became set only for my user account. How can I set the public one?

You need to be on the right page when you set the favourites - the Welcome Page for public favourites, your 'My Portal page" for your personal ones.

I have a PGV site (4.2.2) using the Presidents gedcom. It is configured where no login is required. All information is shown to the Public. I would like to show a "favorite" from the gedcom on the main (Welcome?) page. I see the notice detailed in the original post about being able to display one at startup.
I too have looked everywhere to enable this ability. When logged in as the Site (and GED) admin, the favorite I've selected shows. But not so when logged out, as visitors to the site would be. There are no other user logins. Am I missing something?
Thanks for the help.

1) Sign in as an admin.
2) Navigate to the Welcome Page (not the portal).
3) Click "Customize this GEDCOM Welcome page"
4) Be sure you have activated the GEDCOM FAVORITES block, positioning it wherever you desire.
5) Click "Click here to continue"
6) Navigate to the new GEDCOM FAVORITES Block
7) Click on the configure button.
8) Add your favorite - Save.

Obviously overlooked this on the admin Welcome Page and got mixed up in the Portal view also. KIWI was clearly on target also - just short, to the chase. Still need to work on the positioning part, didn't know you can move the blocks around. This could really improve the appeal of my "public" site!
Your step-by-step method for showing Favorites worked without a hitch. Thank you for documenting these tips for the record.

More than welcome. Kiwi's usually spot on, but both of us sometimes 'talk to fast' or make assumptions. Since his counsel had 'failed', I took the verbose approach.
Yes, moving the blocks around can make a real difference, as does the advanced HTML blocks for adding special items.
Be sure to review your FAQs too and establish some excellent guidelines to help your users achieve your desired data-entry conventions. It will save time and talent.
