Since years I am the admin of a PhpGedView hosted by http://www.seesink.relatedfamilies.com/
and had some succesful email exchanges in this sourceforge at my start.
Since then no issues at all, so no contacts since then.
Now again an issue, BUT I am lost with respect to the procedure to follow
nowadays.
PLEASE help me to get my issue addressed in the right way.
My issue is that new users cann't get through the verification step, after
that they applied for a account.
They get the message:
"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /login_register.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an
ErrorDocument to handle the request."
This is not a problem with the PhpGedView program itself. You need to look for a mis-configuration of the server.
The error message is produced by the server, and the following possibilities come to mind:
(a) Incorrect permissions on the various directories and files that make up the PhpGedView program. You can use your favourite FTP client to fix these. All directories and files should have 755 permissions, except these: file /config.php , directories (and contents) /media and /index , which should have 777 permission. Once PhpGedView is properly configured and running, file /config.php should have 755 permission.
(b) a .htaccess file somewhere that's denying access to login_register.php (and possibly others as well)
(c) a server configuration out of your control.
You should contact your service provider or your server administrator for help. They should also be able to resolve the "404" error, which is definitely caused by a mis-configured .htaccess file.
You might also want to consider upgrading your PhpGedView installation to the most recent 4.3.0 "SVN" version. Please contact me by e-mail, and I can make a ZIP file of this version available to you for downloading from my server. Trying to get this from the SourceForge repository is a very daunting excercise.
