I'm running phpgedview on a server attached to a router.  From  the internet it is accessed as www.jbhost.net/familytree or jbhost.net/familytree.  When accessed from a computer on the lan with the server I have to use diskstation/familytree or 192.168.0.9/familytree.  192.168.0.9 is set as a static address on the router for the server.   When I approve a new user from the lan side of the router they get a welcome email from phpgedview that says to access the site at www.diskstation/familytree.  I have the PhpGedView URL in the configuration set to blank.  If I set the phpgedview url to jbhost.net or www.jbhost.net then when running the ap from the lan it can't find any url that phpgedview generates with jbhost.net in it.  Is this just the way it works when the server is on a router or am I missing something?  Is there any way to have the user approval email specify jbhost.net/familytree as the access url when I do the approval from a computer on the lan? Thanks for any help.

Why can't you access  www.jbhost.net/familytree when using a computer on the LAN?

in the 'old days', access from within a local lan to a hosted public domain was an issue with some routers, but to my knowledge all modern routers should allow you to configure them so as to access the site from either local ip or public domain. mine does so and i would suggest you check with your mfg to see what settings changes you need to make. this would be the best choice.

    Here's my (similar) setup:

I have a DSL modem with static WAN (Internet) and LAN IO addresses. It is set up to forward incoming traffic on ports 80 and 443 to my Linux box running PGV on Apache (this box has a static IP address). In my /etc/hosts file, I added a line with my domain name pointing to my Linux box's IP address With this setup, my requests don't go out to the internet just to be directed back to my LAN (eg. using bandwidth which should go to legitimate visitors). Windows also has a hosts file, but I can't remember the exact location off the top of my head.

I added the server's lan ip address and the website name to the hosts file and everything works.  Thanks!
