How do I add parents to the 2.65.3 version?

Adding parents isn't available in version 2.x.  You will either need to upgrade to 3.0 or use the gdbi client.  See http://www.phpgedview.net/editing.html for more information about using the gdbi client.

Though upgrading is recommended, note that version 3 keeps track of users in a different way, so you will have to enter user information again and reset user passwords after you upgrade.

Version 3 keeps user info in the mySQL/index, where earlier versions kept it in a php file.

Okay, after a few hours I've found a way, but it does have a glitch.

      Click "Individual List"

Click "Add a New unlinked person"

Fill in the details and click Save.

      Under "Admin"

      Click "Accept/Reject Changes"

      "Import GEDCOM"

      "Continue Adding"

      "Yes"

Seach for the new person created.

      Click "Close Relatives"

Click "Add a new wife" (or husband, whatever)

Fill in the details and save.

      Under "Admin"

      Click "Accept/Reject Changes"

      "Import GEDCOM"

      "Continue Adding"

      "Yes"

Seach for the person you want to add these new parents for.

      Click "Close Relatives"

Click "Link this person to an existing family as a Child"

Click "Find Family" and find the new parents.

      Click "Set Link"

      Under "Admin"

      Click "Accept/Reject Changes"

      "Import GEDCOM"

      "Continue Adding"

      "Yes"

      This should be done.  Verify.

Now, if you only know the name of one parent, you will have to create the other parent as "Unknown Unknown".  This seems to be the only way to get that person recognized as a family.  But the spouse will be the only one on the tree with the name "Unknown Unknown".

Wait....  I just tried something.  I went to the "Unknown Unknown" and deleted that person and reimported the Gedcom.  It seems to have worked.

      Lengthy, but it works.

      This statement is not correct:

"version 3 keeps track of users in a different way, so you will have to enter user information again and reset user passwords after you upgrade."

The same user tables exist in 2.6x and 3.0 so the only time that you will have to re-enter users is if you switch from mysql to index or index to mysql.

I probably did something wrong when I upgraded.  Version 3 wouldn't pick up my 8 existing users.  Thanks for correcting the bad info.
