I am finding the after a couple of hours loading information, the edit interface loading seems to slow right down.
Could this be caused by PhpGedView or would it be the browser (Firefox)?

Sorry, I have no idea what you are trying to ask with the statement:

The speed of the code has to do with many factors, but primarily these:
1) the configuration of the server (Ram, processor speed, software versions)
2) the conditions of your local machine (processor speed, ram, browser)
3) connection speeds between the server and you (big factor)
4) collation of the data within MySQL
5) size and detail of the database (relates to collation, connection speed, ram, processor speed, etc)
6) level of access by user (privacy calculations)
7) number of changes waiting approval (I its you, use auto-accept and don't compile a big holding pen of changes)
8) version of PGV
and more.
Without further explanation, more intimate knowledge of your systems and their configuration, and access to the site, we'd be hard pressed to advise further.
Just a technical note - Is not the most common purpose of using an online genealogy program like PGV or webtrees to acquire more knowledge of your ancestral history, perhaps from previously unknown cousins who perform Google, Yahoo or Bing searches for their relatives, discover your cache of data and decide to collaborate or contribute? That's certainly how I've made over 100 new friends of distant relatives (3rd/4th cousins, etc). I'm always amazed that by admins that fail to use these forum posts to promote their sites and provide bots with another link to their data so it can be spidered, JOHO

John, could also be, if you're on a shared host, that your 'bunkmates' are hammering the server from time to time. I've found there are times that my site gets inexplicably slow and it's nothing to do with me at all.
The disadvantages of Autocomplete are that it slows the program, entails significant database activity, and also results in more data being sent to the browser.

Stephen - good idea.
