I'm doing extensive renaming of titles for my images. Now that I have so many, am using view w/o the thumbnails. I unchecked option then chose sequence = External File. Did an edit and when the window closes and refreshes the screen, each edit reverts my options back. That means every edit needs "two refreshes" - one to accept the change and one to set prefs. Adds to the time to do the editing.

Don't use the "Close window" button that appears below the "Update successful" message.  Instead, use your normal window control to close the window.  On a Windows system, this is the "X" near the top right corner.  On your Mac, it's one of the controls in the top left corner.

This will get you back to the original Manage Media window but without your file name change applied to the contents of the window and without a refresh taking place.  The name change has, however, been done to the media in question.

This is a LOT quicker than doing one or two refreshes.  When you lose track of where you are in the list of files, you can always manually refresh the Manage Media window.

I discovered this method when I was doing massive changes like you, but I wanted the media list in file name order - same problem.  One of these days, I'll do something about it.

Thanks for the update trick. I use the INDI/FAM number for external name and start the TITLE with FAM name but women's are depending upon date of image. This process will teach me to name properly!
(BTW: The equivalent for Mac is red button at top, LEFT)

    Mac:
You might want to consider, if you aren't already doing this, to store your various media files in sub-folders according to the family name.  This improves manageability immensely.
