I've always thought attaching existing media should be similar to attaching existing Indi records to each other. But when I opt for searching for the existing Media file "Media contains", whether I click Filter or Display All, nothing happens.
The directory is correct, although shown are two other directories that don't exist (they did at one time). I know the M# but entering that doesn't work either.

Attaching a known Media OBJE via its XREF is quite easy.
From the EVENT, select Add a new Multimedia object. Enter the XREF (Mxxx) number and save, or
from RAW edit, add the following code following the EVEN/FACT details:
2 OBJE @Mxxxx@
To add a general media object to an indi or fam using RAW, simply add
1 OBJE @Mxxxx@ to the record and save, or
Again, use the GUI by selecting Add a new Multimedia object. Enter the XREF (Mxxx) number and save.
If you don't know the XREF, then use the MEDIA search and enter a portion of the Title or FileName (select which term to search upon) and then FILTER. If you failed to enter a title for the media as added, then you can't search for title and must search on FileName.
Else, click ALL and all your media should display. -Stephen

That's how I do attach Media. What is the purpose then of having option to "search" for it if the filter doesn't work like it does for searching for INDI when name is known not number?
I'm trying to fix some broken links where PGV doesn't display image in Manage Multimedia. File is on server. Am trying various ways to get links fixed.

Not sure I follow you on the filter issue, but to use an file that is already on the server HD, simply open the Add Multimedia, then click NEW/Add, In the filename field, enter the name of the file that is already on the server, add the title, display type, preference (highlight and thumb) and save. PGV will use the file on the HD rather than upload a new one.
If you display ALL, all files that are not currently linked will also display with that notation and you can add them to INDI or FAM records. -Stephen
