I have a handful of records I have added myself, as I learned PGV.  Maybe 15 or 20.

I have a large GEDCOM file from another source.

How can I import these into the same GEDCOM namespace?  I don't mind manually resolving the overlaps, but it seems they need to be in a unified GEDCOM to link to each other?

    Nothing so simple :-)

    You have choices….

1 - You can upload a second GEDCOM file (unique name, config, etc..). From there you can use PGVs "remote linking" features to connect the two files. I suggest you read up about it in the WIKI, as its a bit long to describe here.

2 - You can properly merge the two files externally (there are various software and or manual ways to do this) then import the new single GEDCOM file.

3 - You can simply append the new data to your small one (manually), or vice-versa, first making sure there are no overlapping XREF numbers. Doing it this way, you can then use PGVs merge feature to tidy up matching people, sources, or families (Merge is on the Admin page).

If your small file only has few records, I'd recommend no. 3. It won't take much to change 15 or 20 XREFs to ensure no conflicts.

    I recently discovered option four:
You can have two GEDCOMs, with some commonalities.
The merge page asks you for two IDs, **and** which GEDCOM they are in.
If they are different GEDCOMs, the "from" record will not be deleted.  (I have been looking at revising the help text accordingly)
