I am at kinda a loss about how to merge records from a clippings file.

Let me say I am pretty much a novice at PGV, I am able to install it on a website and load GED files but beyond that I am pretty much at a loss, I have found the user and admin guides to be useful, but at times they leave me in the lurch, this is one of those times.

Through the efforts of a distant cuz, I have installed the Clark GED, which is pretty complete on my Dad's side.

A nephew sent me a GED file which includes my mom's side.  I used this file to create a clippings file for my mom, which I named the Updike.GED.

What I want to do now is merge/import the updike.ged file into the clark.ged file.

the merge function in the admin area does not seem to have a lot of help for doing this kinda thing, in fact I am not sure that it can be done.

I think I can use the Updike.ged file as a reference and hand enter all the information into the clark.ged, but with 500 individuals this is going to take quite a lot of time.

Can anyone make a suggestion ?

Tons of threads here in help, and a very recent one in Open Discussions, which cover this topic extensively. PGV has no 'mass merge' function, only the admin>merge one-to-one duplicate elimination routine on INDI or FAM or SOUR or REPO records. This is useful when you discover that someone has added a husband or wife to another individual where they already existed, or where you have 'merged' two GEDCOMs and perhaps have a few overlapping INDIs.

You can use an offline program (make sure it is one that doesn't mangle your PGV GEDCOM), try Greg's patch, or ask nicely of another contributor to perform the one-time merge for you.

Read this thread for more help:

    Hope this helps, Stephen
