Hi, I am using PGV since a while and had never serious problems what means "great job" from all who know how to program and worked for free.
I tried to link to sites (lets call it A and B) by "Link remote person" menu entry what I found under each individual. There I have 3 choices, "Local Site", "Existing remote site" and "New remote site" (what I used). I created the same person at each site and used the ID from B in the dialog from site A. I tried also other relations with husband ect. I tried also with or without a username and password ..
I alsways get the same error:
(!I put the line numbers in Parenthesis if there the same line only with different numbers to save space)

The strange line „/web/1/000/023/860/54306/htdocs/“ is somehow from my hosting provider. But I can access without any problem my site by „stammbaum.mydomain.de“.
I use PHP 5.3 and use PGV 4.4.4 stable.
I also tried to create links by “MyGedView>Admin>manage Sites“ where I guess this is the same only without the link but it would later rise in the linking dialog so that I can pick it from a list?
Remote linking within PGV is buggy at best, and in most cases, hasn't worked correctly in many situations for some time. Even when it worked as intended, its suitability or application were questionable (it never worked completely as intended). It was created as a study project by one of John's classes and used several, new-at-the-time, soap techniques that have since progressed in other directions or have been deprecated.
I stopped using any version of it over 3 years ago, as I don't really see a true purpose. For remote sites to work properly, you have to have an account and be authorized for viewing, which begs the security issues for others.
I would not recommend wasting your time in an attempt to use it, simply add the data that is pertinent to your tree to your tree and otherwise provide a link to the other site with a SEE xxxx for more information on this person/family/event/fact. -Stephen

You're getting the "deprecated" errors because you're running PHP 5.3 .
You can turn off the reporting of "deprecated" errors by setting your php.ini file correctly. Simply add "& ~E_DEPRECATED" to whatever other error reporting is set there.

I tried PHP 5.3 and also tested 5.2 (I can select between 4.4 5.2 and 5.3) with the same result. The line "& ~E_DEPRECATED" was/is already in the ini file.
@okbigkid
Does not sound promising :). I also looked into webtrees (Demo site) and they removed the link totally (as far as I can see).
I found some really good purposes for remote linking sites (that’s why I was trying it :).
I do not say the problem (more from the logical administrative site) in general has no obstacles and traps (access rights, version ..).
Anyhow, so I understood that there are technical issues with it (where I ran into). I not sure why then it is still in at all since 3?.
So there must be some way to operate it .. or?
Is it working if the sites are on the same server?
Do you think there will be someone reanimate and repaint it fresh one day?
Thank
Kurt

Frankly. No one to take it out. Changes in SOAP have disabled a number of the previous features and as the module was created as a class project, it would take another class project - or someone VERY interested, to re-enable the non-working parts. I think this quite unlikely as it was a tool only used by a very few admins and not worth the effort when so many other things need repairing. When PHP 5.3 becomes the norm in use, there will be other issues begin to arise.
Mine links to other hosted (on the same install) gedcoms only partially worked about 2 years ago and seemed to be more trouble than useful since then. -Stephen

I looked in the forum but the newest entry about linking is from 2007. I did anything according to the Wiki: http://wiki.phpgedview.net/en/index.php?title=How_To:Remote_Link_Individuals_Across_Websites_And_Databases
(dialogs outdated but I think basically still shows what is needed)
Is there any known issue with linking or is my hosting provider the problem?
Has somebody experience with linking and has some info for me?
Thanks.

Canajun2eh,
sigh :( No good news but looks there is nothing to do about it.
Thank you for your detailed explanation.
