I just installed phpGedView 2.65. Gave write permission to the appropriate files and dir's. Now when I login, I can't logout, go to admin or go anywhere! It stays on editgedcoms.php.
Please advise.
Brenden

Hey Arne,
I am running on FreeBSD 4.4. I have installed it as index mode and actually found the problem as I was attempting to change it to MySQL mode (assuming I can do that through admin access). You may find the bb @ http://forums.meyerfamilies.com (if you are having trouble accessing it, my dns changes haven't quite propogated yet:-))
Thanks for your help!
Brenden

I wonder if your problem has something to do with your switching from index mode to MySQL mode.
I don't know if it is possible to switch from index mode to MySQL mode or if it eventually will give problems. When I wanted to switch from index mode to MySQL mode I always started from scratch and uploaded a fresh copy of phpGedView and installed it in MySQL mode.
Best regards,
Arne

I wasn't actually able to make the change because when I clicked the admin link, it kept me @ editgedcoms.php.

About the link to your phpGedView: Apparently you don't allow vistors to your site unless they login, and since I'm not one of your registered user I cannot access your site.
If you will allow me to access your site, you'll have to send me a userid and password by mail to bananstat at users.sourceforge.net.
Best regards,
Arne

Well, because if the issue, I can't make those changes, unless I can just manually edit a file and make the change. I am currently working on another install of the software, hopfully that will help.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks!

I was about to suggest that you could make a fresh install, as well as I alternatively would tell you how to manually changing username and password in the relevant file.
If the problem also is, that you can't login yourself, I would like to say that userid and password must be composed from regular letters and numbers.
Best regards,
Arne

Arne,
Just finished the reinstall using MySQL this time, however, still the same problem! I am able to login just fine , no errors, right username & password. I must be missing something.
How can I manually make the necessary changes to enable visitors?
Brenden
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
If you want to allow normal visitors with no rights at your site, you must change "Require Visitor Authentication" from Yes to No.
In order to do that you need to click the Admin link, next you need to click the Manage Gedcoms link and finally you need to click the Edit link in the gedcom table and locate the Require Visitor Authentication setting.
However, if the problem is the same you probably can't do that.
It's a strange problem so I need to think a little ;-)
Best regards,
Arne

I created a quick gedcom file and was able to upload it, however I am getting a gang of MySQL errors now (at least I am able to get off the editgedcoms.php page:-). If I sort through the mess of errors and go to the admin page, I can actually hit it now but again, full of errors. Am I supposed to manually create these tables in MySQL?
Regards,
Brenden

No, no - you are not supposed to manually create these tables in MySQL.
However, can you go to the useradministration and create a userid and password to me or to Roland, so we can access your site and have an idea as to what the problem is.
Don't give the userid and password here in the forum, send it to my or Rolands mailaddress.
Best regards,
Arne

I just got back from dinner, so I will look through the mailflow and see what is happening.
If you can email me a username and password then I can see the errors also :)
Maybe better to also send one to Arne so we can both have a look.

Roland

Okay, here are the steps to make this work!
1. Follow instructions per readme.txt
2. after admin user is created, import gedcom file (a public fix for upload should be available soon)
3. Voila! Able to navigate through the site and even log off!
Thanks Arne and Roland for all your help!

Sorry I am late on this thread. I probably could have saved you some headaches. But since I had over 200 unread PGV messages, I am trying to catchup.
This is a feature. ;-) If you don't have any gedcoms added the program will keep taking you to editgedcoms.php until you add a gedcom. Otherwise you will get tons of errors on the other pages. On bug though, is that you should be able to go back to the admin page. I will have to fix that.

Hi Brenden
What platform and webserver are you using?
Is phpGedView installed in index mode or MySQL mode ?
Can you give us a link to your installation ?

CORRECTION! I placed the wrong url (I am working on my bb as well -oops!) The url is http://geneology.meyerfamilies.com.
Thanks again!

Sorry guys, the complete version build of php that I am running is 4.3.4. It helps when you have the details :-)
