How big is your GEDCOM file?  20MB is a lot of memory to use up.

Is the 20MB error coming from the net or from my computer?

It is a PHP error on your host server.  The amount of memory that a script can use is configured by the host.  It looks like your server is set for a max of 20Mb.  The default PHP setting is 8Mb, which is plenty for most gedcoms under 2Mb.

It is odd that you only get the error message sometimes and that it happens while reading in your index file.  I would expect that if it were going to run out of memory while loading the index, that it would happen every time.  Otherwise I would expect it to run out of memory while it is doing its processing.

What version of PHP and Apache are running on your host?  You can find this information by going to the Admin menu in phpGedView and selecting the "PHPInfo" link.
