I'm experiencing bouts of bad server performance but things always work fine when I create a ticket about it. So I'm exploring other options and will certainly make a major change later in the year. But for now, in order to optimize PGV tasks for myself and my dedicated user community, I want to combine the following modules in some workaround way.
Personal Facts and Details
Notes
Close Relatives
I normally have 'All' checked as the gedcom default but the 'Tree' and 'Map' tabs get unusably slow during bad times. If I can somehow connect the above three tabs together as the 'All' function or 'default' tabs to have open, I believe that would help me and my users get by for the time being. Can any kind soul suggest an approach to this? I've poked into the code a bit and am not afraid of messing with it but a pointer or two would sure be helpful.
Thanks,
Victor
PS, I am up to the latest SVN except for the Translation-specific SVNs.

Basically - you have no options. TAB's are not modules in PGV and can not really be easily controlled. Too many dependencies. Even if they could, they couldn't be combined - only eliminated or turned off and then still use ALL. Of course GM is not necessary, nor is Album - so any that ARE modules can simply be removed by deleting their folders in the Modules folder. IIRC, Tree was not developed as a module either as John did it as a feature for full inclusion.
This is one of the most exciting feature sets within webtrees - that virtually every display element - themes, old-style modules, blocks, tabs, etc ARE modules and there is a full-featured administrative control to turn off or change the display of the module. HOWEVER, as good as it is, webtrees is definitely not ready for use with live sites as the code continues to change many times each day and there are more database changes in the works. None of the developers is using the code for their own live sites, and no one is more familiar with the program. The program is working toward a 'hoped-for' August 2010 release, but as the code evolves daily, this too could change with further delay (certainly not earlier).
I would say you need a new ISP/host, if you are having difficulties with a gedcom of your size, and this will be true even if you switch to webtrees.
Again, I am not advocating a change, nor do I advocate a change. We currently DO NOT support users nor the installation and use of the webtrees code. It is in, at best, beta mode at this time and your data could be at risk (as it is with any program or set of resources) and access to your site sporadic.
