I just updated from 2.65.1 to 2.65.3 and unfortunately there seem to be some errors. One was with the system time (which I just deleted, since I won't need it personally) and when I try to administer my settings. In the editconfig.php I get the following code on the very top of the page. Please help!

      Hi Jens

Thanks for asking about this, because the developers generally thinks I'm a nut when I report errors in ver. 2.65.3 - to the developers ver. 2.65.3 is long forgotten history - to them, only ver. 3.0 alpha exist. Only that the developers completely forget that ver. 3.0 alpha isn't availalbe in the public area.

Unfortunately I can't help you, but I hope your posting can help the developers to understand, that there is a world outside Verona - or was it the CVS ...

      Best regards,

      Arne

      Hi Bernard

In that case I suggest that you file an RFE that want us to drop our support ;-s

      Best regards,

      Arne

      Arne,

As me being one of the developers, I do absolutely appreciate your error reporting. Without error reports we can never make improvements.

As mentioned before we do all this in the spare time we have. Giving support and develop at the same time are both time consuming. Time is just what is limited.

Surely, I am convinced that we try to give as much support as possible. As is always the case with support, more support is needed than we can unfortunately give. Therefore we rely on the help of users also. We could give full-time support but then no development can be done. This is also an unwaned situation.

Finding the balance is walking a thin line. As I can see, we are doing pretty good in finding the balance.

      Regards,

      Roland

      Jens,

As for your error, it displays a helptext which you did not ask for :) Can you send me the file as botak at users dot sourceforge dot net? I can compare it then to what it should be ;)

      Thanks,

      Regards,

      Roland

      Thanks Roland,

I'm not at home right now, so I can't send it now. By the way: I substituted the file with the file from the previous release and now it seems to work.

Unfortunately I'm almost completely ignorant when it comes to PHP - otherwise I'd fix the problem myself.

Thanks again for offering your help. I think you are all doing a great job - I just love this project. (why don't you include the project in hotscripts.com? - I found this script only by accident although I had searched the internet specifically for a php powered gedcom solution).

      Hi Roland

You are right: Without testing, error reporting and error fixing, phpGedView wouldn't have climbed to the position it has to day.

And unfortunately phpGedView also rapidly will loose its position again, when testing, error reporting and error fixing are neglected.

As to the political part of your speech: well, what can I say ;-))

And what can I say, when a big contributor like Bernard tells me to get lost.

However, I'll return to this and other matters in another thread in the general discussion forum - and your opinion are welcome, but please spare me for political speeches.

      Best regards,

      Arne

      Jens and Roland,

      Has this issue been resolved?

      Hi John,

I have not heard from Jens anymore. He said he used an older file to have the text disappear.

So I am not sure what the status is.

      Regards,

      Roland

I just compared the editconfig.php files included in the 2.65.x releases and there is no difference between editconfig.php version 2.65.3 and editconfig.php version 2.65.2.

There is a small difference between version 2.65.1 and 2.65.3 where stripslashes() was added to print the $SERVER_URL variable in the form value.

But this change would not have caused the problems listed above.  Perhaps the file was corrupted when it was uploaded and just needed to be uploaded again.
