Hi
This program is very hard to make do right!
And now when I've managed to get the uploaded ged-file to show all names is without danish letters :-(((

PS: 1) do not use any danish letters in the two first stages of the set up. Make ALL uploaded files with ALL permisions (not the 3 mentioned only).
2) The upload (and upload again or whatever I did to get it right) of a ged-file is tooooo spooky.
All in all it's like a antique car, it looks very nice but it's hard to drive but I most admit it's fast.

Have you looked at the FAQ and the README? http://phpgedview.sourceforge.net/faq.html#charset
There are sections in them about what to do if the characters in your GEDCOM are not displaying properly. The basic answer is that your GEDCOM should be encoded in the UTF-8 character set.
The difficulty in setting up the program is dependant upon 1) your knowlege of the Internet, and 2) the PHP configuration of your server. I don't have control over these very important variables ;-)
I've tried to make it as simple and painless as possible to setup.
Arne, since we have so many Danish users, what would you think about doing a Danish translation of the readme file?
I'm curious what other file permissions you had to change? The most important ones are the config.php and the ./index/ directory. If you want to use the language editor, and the media upload then they obviously need to have write permissions too. But since these are essential to install the program then I didn't mention them in the installation instructions.
I'm also curious about what happened when you used Danish characters in the first two stages? If I know the problems then I can try to fix them.

Ok let me say this (first thanks for your answering my subject) the output of the program looks great to me that's why I strugle to use it.
As a password I like to use danish letters, I tryed and got some not understandable phperrors. - The contains of the ./index do also have to be "readan'writeable". Now that done (after carefully reading the readme for the n'th time) I simply uploaded a gedcom-5.5-file made by my current genealogical program (Disgen8c) saved as a UTF8 - and when clikcing on "persons list" or any other "list" got long 4-lines php-errors - then after rereading readme I reuploaded the file and things worked but no danish letters. What to do now I dont know (I think I'll go to bed and leve it untill tomorrow) but I'll very much like to get it to work.

If you want, you can send me a personal email with a copy of your GEDCOM or a link to your site and I will try to figure out why the characters are not showing.

I had the same problem with swedish letters when exporting from disgen 8c. I changed the export from Ansel format of gedcom to ANSI and uploaded the file. That seemed to work for me.
